Hi there, welcome to the BLOG of my life as a Vagabiker. Beryl calls me a 'Free Spirit' my Grandpa a B.U.M. of no fixed address. Kelly says I'm 'off the wall'. I think that the Toad is closest saying I'm the Cat in the Hat it's fun to have fun—but you have to know how.

These are the stories of my unique, home-and-job-free Natness.

Naturally, quasi-legal events are fictional. Everything else is the unvarnished truth.

Halloween
Always good times. I managed to go out twice. Once to ‘adult’ parties dressed as the ‘guy who passes out first’. I don’t know about the parties that you go to but in B-Town the theme for girls it to dress as close to naked as possible – simply outstanding, and mind-boggling at the same time. (more…)

Stages 8-13 Summary

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

Stage 8: ‘Another Epic’ into Fort Bragg CA
The day started off with another dull highway section and fog (call me crazy but the fog slowly seems to be getting warmer – not to be mistaken with warm). The ‘continental breakfast’ was coffee and little Debbie’s oatmeal cakes, not that I don’t’ find LD to be a staple race food, but I find myself arguing with a Chinese lady about the definition of Continental meals. We head down the street to the Best Western and eat there. (more…)

Stage 7: ‘Old hwy 101’ Eureka CA

I stopped in at the tourist information to ask for the bike map (WA and OR had them, why not CA?). The lady there tells me that I’m lucky I stopped in, because just outside of town is a really quiet trail that is ‘one mile of purgatory, and 3 miles of heaven… We’ll probably have to walk our bikes a little, but we won’t see another person the whole time… Oh and watch out for Poison Oak.’ (more…)

Stages 5 and 6: Brookings OR, Crescent City CA

Stage 5: ‘Hello Sunshine’ Bandon OR, 88 miles

Packing up at the hotel in the morning, we start chatting with the ‘young man’ who spent all of last night being yelled at by his mother. He’s newly divorced, and his wisdom lends us the quote of the day Don’t Never date a girl who doesn’t like Motorbikes … or bicycles, or whatever you’re into. (more…)

Stage 4: ‘Urting legs of Rubber. Florence OR

So our ‘sunny day’ was overcast, and like all the other days, we had wet roads most of the time. After breakfast with a guy who we concluded must be an escaped con, we got on the road ‘an hour late’ and started south. The first 30 miles rocked by quickly. Dr Evil hooked up the bob again on the run into lunch, and was confronted by a 3.5 mile climb. I spent my time taking photo’s and having pee breaks. (more…)

Stage 3: Like Ugly on Ape. 66 mile ride to Tillamook OR

Dr. Evil has been getting all bent about not pulling ‘his weigh’, so today he insists on hooking the 60lbs of BOB to his 15lb C-15 Colnago. I head backwards to the post office, to send off unnecessary items (underwear, extra Mr Tuffy’s, etc.) and he takes off like a possessed being. 35 miles of chasing and I’ve logged my first flat. Rain is scheduled again, though it’s lighter and warmer than yesterday, we’ve still got a decent head wind to keep us company. (more…)

Stage 2; 103 miles to Astoria OR

Stage #2, 103 miles to Astoria OR

The first half of today’s stage was sunny, and in 3h we covered the same distance as all of yesterday. After we reached the Hwy 101 on the Oregon Coast at Raymond, and turned south into a headwind. Moments later the headwind was joined with rain as the temperature dropped to 48 F. (more…)

Stage 1: NAT-vigation Errors. Chehalis WA

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

The first 45min saw two wrong U-turns, and this was before we even got through Tacoma. Things didn’t improve when we were distracted by the smelliest truck in life (think rotting bodies that we could still smell a mile after it passed us), and managed to unknowingly get off our route. 3h or tempo riding later and we were 7 miles from were we’d just been. So after the first 4h12 min of riding we’d traveled a net of 33 miles. OUCH. (more…)
