my vagabiking life
Hi there, welcome to the BLOG of my life as a Vagabiker. Beryl calls me a
'Free Spirit' my Grandpa a B.U.M. of no fixed address. Kelly says I'm 'off the wall'.
I think that the Toad is closest saying I'm the Cat in the Hat it's fun to have fun—but you
have to know how.
These are the stories of my unique, home-and-job-free Natness.
Naturally, quasi-legal events are fictional. Everything else is the unvarnished truth.
So I did it.
I won my age group and am headed to Kona. (more…)
So after all the training the first true test is coming up. Essentially I have been super nervous this entire week, especially as the micro taper has progressed, and I’ve been more recovered.
Sean and I received a Specialized Care package Monday, from Gears - so I got my new Specialized Tri shoes.. good enough to save 10 seconds on my transition, and above that avoid my having to worry about the straps and buckles hassles.
The first bummer of the travel was that we were each dinged $100 for our bikes in the airport. We debated taping them together and saving one bike fee, but that would have put us in the over weight bracket as well.
While the Specialized beauty is awol… I’ve taken it upon myself.. which some help from my friends of course, to build up my own super bike to tide me through. It’s taken some time and excitement to put together. A big part of getting it going is that Sean has is real super bike (look to left), and I don’t want to be out done…
So far it’s 1 for 1, winning fastest bike split of it’s only race.
As you know I’m a bike dork. But also because I’m just getting back into triathlon, I don’t have any real sponsorship. I don’t have a huge affinity for paying retail, so I have managed to call in favors, and get deals, but I have actually paid for everything. And if I am paying for stuff you can bet that I am going to be getting items that truly believe in, and am really stoked on.
So without further adue… I give you Knats Hardcore Superbike. a.k.a. the KHS-uperbike (more…)
First off, we are living here in Florida in a retirement village. During the day we hear the click clack of shuffleboard, and by 7pm the place is shut down. Defiantly different. (From anything I’m used to, as far as living/ training.) I’ll be based out of for the next 6 weeks.
We have just wrapped up another C3/ Personal Best Training Camp here in Tucson (the next starts up in around a month). So we are from a go - go - go, with extra room mates, and now back to the daily grind.
Which is doing awesome training in a great environment. The wrap up day itself was my single hardest training day ever (correct me if I am wrong). I have been in colder, harsher, and longer conditions. (more…)
Sean was telling me how great the pool at the ‘NTC’, it was truly spectacular. Two days after ending our drive here, I did another 1900m test, and after a month of 22km swimming weeks I was a little disappointed to only take 15s off my time.
RACE DAY. Florida’s Great Escape Triathlon, March 9, 2008
1km swim, 27km bike, 5km dirt run was the deal for the day
I have been telling anyone who would listen… watch out for the energy of the first race, as I have 2 years pent up competitive energy, and I was planning on taking it out on the elite field with prize moolah 3 deep. (more…)
Though I have heard cyclists knock triathletes upon occasion, I have only funned them for their fashion habits, not their training. Now that I have survived the first month of my bi (cycle) to tri (athlete) transition I have full respect. This three-sport stuff is no joke, and I can still drop you on the bike!
You can NOT make fun of a 4h30 ride @ 33km/h with 4×20 min race pace, a run of 90 minutes and swimming 1h45. This is not a week’s training, it’s DAY. Yeah, I know, it’s enough to scare the hair out of your armpits, and turn your hair into green straw. (Yes I am gradually joining the ranks of fashion offenders.)
Sean and I trained a butt-s off. (more…)
