Oceanside 1/2 IM Pre-Game
So after all the training the first true test is coming up. Essentially I have been super nervous this entire week, especially as the micro taper has progressed, and I’ve been more recovered.
Sean and I received a Specialized Care package Monday, from Gears - so I got my new Specialized Tri shoes.. good enough to save 10 seconds on my transition, and above that avoid my having to worry about the straps and buckles hassles.
The first bummer of the travel was that we were each dinged $100 for our bikes in the airport. We debated taping them together and saving one bike fee, but that would have put us in the over weight bracket as well.
We find the archbikers new house, park, sleep.
When we filially roll out of the house… no rental car. Snap. no signs … must be stolen. Maybe I shouldn’t have waved the extra insurance… With race entry this is a $1000 weekend… please bid on my new old wetsuit to help fund this. Eventually it turns out that this block had a no-non permitted parking sign at the entrance, which we drove by in the dark…
Mrs AB is ecstatic to drive us over a town. Find the car, find the venue, get registered.
Tracked down Time trial helmets…
Classen meets us there, excited about his age group 1/2 Ironman Debut, and we’re back to Lois’s in San Clemente.
Today, we had a good training day, and everything went really well. 3x 3.5 minutes tempo spin uphill.
I’m not exactly sure where tomorrow’s live coverage will be, but we have our timing chips, which beam our info to the internet for instant results dig around on www.ironmanlive.com
OK I’m off to bed - I’ll probably sleep in my super bad new race suit.
A huge thanks for Lisa Bentley for her nutrition/ pep talk, and Dave for the suit hookup before they’re even for sale on the continent.
Nat ‘tomorrow I’ll be givin’ ‘er’
