Hi there, welcome to the BLOG of my life as a Vagabiker. Beryl calls me a 'Free Spirit' my Grandpa a B.U.M. of no fixed address. Kelly says I'm 'off the wall'. I think that the Toad is closest saying I'm the Cat in the Hat it's fun to have fun—but you have to know how.

These are the stories of my unique, home-and-job-free Natness.

Naturally, quasi-legal events are fictional. Everything else is the unvarnished truth.

I’m an addict

the targetsSo after my last post (Wed?) I found out that there is another local race here in Clermont… The 25th Great Clermont Triathlon. You can still enter, because I believe that I just did**. It took me a while to convince Coach Barrie to allow me to do this, but he just relented. Now instantly I’m quivering with nerves (literally) at the though of racing again. Any questions? I’m an tri addict. I’m sure I’ll be yapping again Mon/ Tues to tell ya how the race went.
Otherwise because of the travel costs associated with races and the fact that I have reached my primary early season goal… qualifying for Ironman. This is much ahead of my predicted schedule. So until October 11th I don’t have any big races I will taper for.

Now that I am out of the triathlon closet. (As opposed to just secret training.) here is the, ahem, ‘plan’
Now my primary goal for the season is being the first amateur at in Hawaii. Having looked at the times over the past 5 years… there is a 30 minute window for the winners. Maybe some years it’s easier? Ha. I’m sure that there will be some very long talks (and bikes, and swims) with Lisa Bentley in my future.
Of course in true fashion… immediately after finishing my ‘hardest'hardest training day ever' start training day ever’, and all the world of suffering I was in from a simulated 1/2 IM. I SWORE that I would never do a full IM. Ah, how short my the Nat-memory lasts.
Here are the ‘fixed’ points of the 2008 season:
Driving the subi from Bako-Ontario
June 1 Milton Tri
June 15 Muskoka Long (I watched Canadian and World Championships here in my ‘formative years’)
- a short break -
kickin’ into full on IM training

there will probably be a few road races, and smaller tri’s thrown in the mix.
For 2009
(the things that didn’t fit in this year)

winter a big bike tour (with runners)
Racing tri’s as a pro
St Croix Triathlon (skipped this year to save the $500+ of travel, I’m already entered)
Wild Flower
Alcatraz
IM Canada

** it ends up that I’m not racing the weekend - but I was still excited at 4h by the prospect.

  1. Hey,

Now that you’re an addict if you’re planning on doing IM Canada and need a place to stay and train for awhile I’m usually gone for August and my place sits empty. Only a short drive to Penticton and I could probably get you a ride.

    Lemme know,
    Derek
