the bike tour: Nashua NH via Adarondaks

SO I finished the muskoka tri, hung out 5h for awards (plaque and socks) drove home slept 2h, ate supper, and jumped into the subie for the 5h drive to Ogdensburg NY and the start of my bike tour. I cracked after 4h and put the tent up behind a church and slept. (yes this is a slightly old post, but I have posted the pic’s up on-line).
Plus I just got a holla from Kurt and Jen’s 2WD Euro Tour. They’re over in in Norway still at the start of a multi month, multi country euro tour. (more…)
What’s the latest?
It wouldn’t be July if there weren’t cyclists getting popped for dope. Other years I would just watch the live coverage. Doping scandals can break at any time, so it’s key tp check in regularly. Ricco, well he was too good to be true on those climbs. Not that I’m jumping on the bandwagon. But he probably used up all his stored ‘clean’ (taken out during the winter) blood during the Giro, and had to medicate here. Also I guess the tests are getting better, so that’s good for those of us who abstain. However the problem is that the drugs keep getting better. A recent study showed 8% performance increase from EPO use… so when the guys who are in 15th spot are doping, but also getting left behind by minutes… what are the leaders doing?
Yesterdays weather in Clermont FL : 91 degrees, and 73% humidity.
The Crystal River Sprint Triathlon took place on the Saturday following the 4th of July. 227 athletes registered for the 2nd race in the series and the entire day went very smooth. Everyone had fun and we saw some fast times at the finish. Nat Faulkner from Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada wasn’t bothered by the heat as he took a significant lead during the bike, averaging 26.5 mph, and turned a scorching 56:54 for the course to win the Overall Male Title.
Though it’s hard to judge this type of thing, I have heard from reliable sources that the Muskoka Chase, or Muskoka Long, is the second largest triathlon in Canada behind Ironman.
So I got up to Chelsea Quebec yesterday for the Tuesday of the long weekend. I love this area, quiet clean. And last August this is when I get into the swim of things again.
