Life with out cycling is really boring - Marc Lanoue
I was talking to Marc tonight. He’s spent most of the last 3 years riding in France and really enjoying the depth of life over there. He also had to take some time off of cycling - which really is an enjoyable for life type of sport.
Otherwise I’m up at 6:30 to swim with Chelsey, shes in the tail end of her high volume phase. I made it through 2h of her 2h10 workout yesterday morning. She dropped me swimming backstroke (she is a world record holder) to my Freestyle… so I went home, should have napped, but drank the last of the coffee instead. My team mates have finished their taper and are off to BC to lay the smack down and bring the hardware
home at Nationals this coming weekend. For your sake I hope you’re not racing them.
I also have to give Rachel a shout out for trooper of the year award. She’s had a shoulder issue all year, but instead of skipping out on swimming she’s gone to the pool and kicked, yes kicked, no board - that might aggravate her shoulder more - 7h a week. Then last week when we fell over… she fractured her Radius. We joked that she would relish another excuse to go and kick in the pool, and strengthen small muscles with tubing, but having finally become fixed… it must of sucked… oh, and she had to ride the trainer as she could only hold the bars with one hand. A week later, and she is healed enough to head off. O’Reilly… you’re the trooper of the year.
And last but not least I went down to Auburn NY last week for a Canoe Triathlon. Well I was just doing the bike in a relay. First I was supposed to attend TL’s wedding (the half man) but somehow I couldn’t find it. So
after running around the wrong park with my suit on, I went home, cooked supper, and started driving before camping.
Alene blitzed the run giving me a 2 minute lead at the Great Race… some guy actually took back some time on me, but 3rd was more than 4 minutes back starting the paddle… but the waves sunk the canoe… so we lost a few spots there. None of it mattered as the team was DQ’d. We all had committed some foul during the day but in the end the official verdict was:
I am the scorer for the race. I only know that our committee decided to DQ the team, and were quite certain that a DQ was warranted. I also know that it was because of safety rules violations by the biker for the team. I will have to contact other committee members if you need more detail.
All I can say is that I’ll be back next year with Bells on (do I ever take them off?)

Oh, so even on good days Chelsea out swims me doing backstroke, but she’s a world record holder, so I guess that’s OK. She’s doing her final push for the Olympics, so in the mornings it’s just me and her in the pool.
