The Bulldog Traithlon
I was off on a road trip this weekend, and had a great time.
First stop was Rondeau Provincial Park in between Chatham and Ridgetown (a misnomer, and where my mother grew up). It’s a beautiful venue, and reminds me of some of my first races I ever did. Race Director Jim Loyer is just packing up day one, as I preview the course … flat, shaded with trees, and very fast. My one kilometer pre race effort I average 46km/h without aero wheels. The run was less positive, after 200m I was walking back to the car in pain (cue ibuprofen, and ice-packs).
Next stop was the Lighthouse Inn to meet up with Jim Cook (team Trackburner Racing Swimmer) and his family for a fantastic pre race dinner.
As the last part of the pre-race instructions I’m called up and introduced to the athletes, and they are
reminded of the Bounty - there is an award for anyone who comes within 3 minutes of me on the bike leg. At that point in time, I have done no swim warm up, no run warm up (I was scared to) but a really good bike warm up. Ha ha. Then it’s into my 2XU wetsuit and.. off into the water.
The course is out and back 750m, and it’s going well. On the way back there are some shallower spots and it’s dolphin-diveable (no I wasn’t swimming butterfly). I get out of the water first.. and am stoked, and then it’s onto the bike. I ride as quick as I can, because of the whole bounty thing, but it’s a really fun-fast course, and I’m having a blast.
Onto the run, which is all dirt, and shaded double track paths in the park. I’m also digging the run, and cruising along pain free. All told it was a great really fun event. I hope to see you all there in 2009.
here are the Results.
