tough day in the trenches

beautiful warm up swim in the harbor – through the sail boats. To one direction is the 300 year old Danish fort, another mountains, another the sunrise over a spit.

The swim started well for 80m and then I get smacked and loose the gasket off my goggles – I’m a one eyed bandit.

Exit the swim in descent position – 1.5km in flat a rear tubular. Borrow a knife, cut it off pop on the spare – oh it’s too fat for the frame. Adjust the set screws – start riding again. Time for change – long: 7-10 minutes.

The next 88km I have to brake with the front wheel only, and go very slow in the corners (not the ideal course for an unglued tubular rear). By the finish I had another flat, but was leading my age group.

I was passed around the 7.5 mile mark which was kinda nice, because with only one Kona slot I could back off the suffering a notch (or two).

So thanks for everyone whose helped me and all the campers, friends, and family who have sent notes. Sorry but today just ended up being a hydrant day (as opposed to a dog day).

go bite the head off of a young chicken, sprinkle the blood on your left foot, and get your luck changed.
