Saugeen Triathlon Club: Nov 29th Banquet Speaker

Super Athlete Faulkner Banquet Speaker

Dunkeld – World Class Triathlete and Cyclist Nathaniel “Nat” Faulkner will be the guest speaker at the year-end banquet for the Saugeen Triathlon Club at the Dunkeld Restaurant on Sunday, November 29th.

After having spent well over half his life at the pointy-end of sports, traveling and training, he has a wealth of stories, and learning from trial and error. One never knows where on the globe Faulkner will turn-up next. You can be sure it will be on a bike and he will be causing a stir.

In 2008 at the The World Ironman Championships in Kona, Faulkner did his first triathlon in 14 years. With only seven months of training, he recorded one of the best bike times in the race and finished as the second Canadian to cross the finish line.

He has competed in the famed RAAM – Race Across America. It is a continuous over 5000 kilometer race from the Pacific to the Atlantic. His team averaged over 38km/h through rain, three mountain ranges, stop signs, car accidents, and tears.

He has bike toured from Inuvik above the Arctic Circle south to the Panama Canal. Page sixty-eight of the latest edition of Triathlon Magazine Canada has a story about his bike tour of France following the Ironman race in Nice.

In addition to his racing and athletics, Faulkner coaches athletes and cyclists on subjects from “How to plan your off season (and winter) to maximize results for your ‘on-season’”, “Bike Positioning and Aerodynamics – he has a power point presentation that Specialized made on the aerodynamic benefits of wheels, helmet, frame, TT bars so newer triathletes can see where they can obtain the best aerodynamic improvement regarding money spent”, and “How to use a spin bike (or stationary trainer) to maximize your triathlon bike leg. He calls it a potential great training tool even if most spin classes use it more for general fitness than cycling performance”.

As well, he has rubbed shoulders with some of the giants in cycling and multi-sport over the years including Steve Hed (aerodynamics positioner of Lance Armstrong), who has been a friend and adviser since he was 16. Presently he trains with C3 and works with Personal Best where he trains for triathlon with their high performance team and Canadian Olympic hopeful Sean Bechtel. Following his time with us, he is heading to California to train for a month and then he off to Arizona for a couple of months to help run winter training camps for Personal Best.

Faulkner is funny, busy, entertaining, knowledgable and never boring! Get out your calendars!
