Hi there, welcome to the BLOG of my life as a Vagabiker. Beryl calls me a 'Free Spirit' my Grandpa a B.U.M. of no fixed address. Kelly says I'm 'off the wall'. I think that the Toad is closest saying I'm the Cat in the Hat it's fun to have fun—but you have to know how.

These are the stories of my unique, home-and-job-free Natness.

Naturally, quasi-legal events are fictional. Everything else is the unvarnished truth.

About Nat Faulkner

Hi I’m Nat
I’m a vagabond.
I travel the world on my bike. I race. I tour.
I sleep on couches.

This Blog started to keep my mom posted on where I am, what I am up to, and that I am still alive, and more than kicking.

Currently I am fulfilling a life long dream to be top amateur at Ironman Kona.

Previously on Nat:
I went to University of Victoria for 2.5 years. I never decided what I wanted to study, so in 2000 I went to a training camp in Tucson AZ, with no car, no team, and no where to stay. The adventure kicked itself into high gear then. I’ve survived though, and through this diary I’ll let you see how it works.

I bike race full time but I’m not a pro. I was a pro once, but most of the amateur teams I’ve ridden for since then have had larger budgets…

Since 2000 I have worked less than 12 days a year, and never in my life have I had a job for longer than 2 months. If I need money I work, otherwise I don’t. As a result, I have no fixed address (see: Where I Sleep), no cell phone, and don’t always know where I will be sleeping next. I have some great stories from the scenario’s I get into and the friends (characters) that I meet along the roads.

From 2000-2002 I raced on the Kissena Cycling team based out of NYC. We had an apartment near the city, I had a garden. 2003-04 I rode for Trek VW New England.

2004 I was going to quit, so decided to ride Race Across AMerica (RAAM) and ended up setting a world record with the help of 3 other riders, and a fantastic crew.

2005 I returned to a Canadian Pro team, which I was excited about, but things never clicked, and over the winter I chose to spend my time bike touring… and now I’m here. Here are my bike results from when I was there.

When I quit road racing in 2005 I made list of things ‘I think would be cool’.  I’ve been steadily picking them off and adding to the list.

In the late Summer of 2007 after a lot of bike touring (check the archives) I decided to start swimming and take up IronMan triathlon after 14 years out of water, and avoiding running.  For 2008 was almost a fairy tail season, and I am more excited than ever for the prospects of 2009.

A huge thanks to my parents, friends and families, and anyone else with a guest room that I’ve slept in.  Also I have some really cool sponsors.  If you are looking for stuff, I have tested lots, and this is what I found to have worked.  No one is paying me, I choose them because I believe that they are the best in their fields.  I’ll happily give feedback/ answer questions if you send me a line.

  8. Hey bud I still have that birthday card you gave me at 40. Only 10 to go for you. You’re not quite in the Geezer class yet, but it won’t be long.
Good luck in Hawaii. Kick some butt.

  10. Hey Nat,

Awesome job at Ironman. What an incredible achievement. Let the words, “Best in Canada” ring in your ears for a while, you deserve it! Looking forward to seeing you on the stage next year at the awards night.

You may not remember, but I am the Ironman volunteer who congratulated you at the end of the race (a fellow Bracebridge resident).

  11. Nat! Hilarious site. Heard from Justin that you are in Hawaii. (I am the friend of Justin’s who made him make her wedding cake! :) ) - and live in Ottawa - you know, his tall grooms’-maid.

Anyways, I have been thinking about selling some stuff on ebay… then I thought of you and how much better you are probably at that kind of thing… so…

How does it work if I want you to sell a bunch of mine stuff on ebay?

Anyways, let me know! Hope all is well.
    Tracey
