Operation Panama City Complete

Hey,

So after a rather uneventful day of riding, just 64 km along a divided, busy 4 lane highway, ignore the people at the toll booths and keep on riding.

When we reached the bridge over the canal we were stopped by security. ‘For our own safety’ we had to wait for a little pick-up truck and jam our stuff into the back of it for a ride across the bridge.

Hello Panama

Hi there,

In case any of you were wondering, Panama is really hot.

After the Really extremely bumpy 45km long dirt road in Costa Rica, we had a really potholed paved road to the Panamanian boarder. The holes were easily avoidable on bicycles, but a pain in the butt to vehicles with 4 wheels.

Our last night in Costa, we were not really in a nice looking spot for camping, and the locals eventually told us to camp at the school, where we tented up behind the soccer goal. Since it is expensive here, our breakfast cost $1.90, eggs, rice, black beans .. the usual.

Costa Rica

Hey there sportsfans, welcome back

So I am south of Domical Costa Rica. I like this country, and there are only 6 days left to Panama. It’s nice here, a little more civilized, but more white tennis shoes is the catch.

It is hot and warm down here. Some nights I have to sleep outside skins just to be cool enough, of course I put on bugspray in lieu of a tent, but then it only lasts ’3 hours’ so I usually have to put in ear plugs so that the mosquitoes’s whine doesn’t keep me awake.

Otherwise, I am not sure what I am going to be in for as far as reverse culture shock, but it will be a little different not having roosters wake me up at 4am, dogs catch me, when they come down the driveway. I am looking forward to Kelley’s Lasagna but you know what I mean.

Of course you cannot replace the open-ended adventure of traveling this way. If you could my ‘normal’ life would probably be the closest thing.

Guate City

Hey,

First off my highschool buddy, and XC Ski rival Dan Roycroft is racing in the Olympics this week. Give ‘em shit buddy.

Secondly, Kim thanks for updating that other post, leave it to me to think up a plan as backassward as this. Write on a piece of paper, mail it by ship to Vermont from Mexico, for a friend to type up, in her ‘free’ time. LOL. Kim rocks.

I am in Guatemala City today, I got busted with $70 in taxes in Belize, and then crossing the boarder, found that the road was rough dirt.

Mexico to Belize trip updates … thus far

I am as amazed as you guys are that I am actually getting up the report which I predicted. So here are the words…

Ha Ha. I have been hanging out at the operations headquarters of Sea Kunga. Today we where hoping to take a boat trip out to the Keyes (spelled differently, but that’s how it’s pronounced, and will possibly get a chance to check out the worlds largest non-Aussie barrier reef. But the weather has turned a little stormy, so we will be pounding pavement again

Otherwise the 1 day that ballooned into 3 day visit here has been a great success. I managed to solve the mystery of where the missing liter of milk went, and why all my cycling clothing coming out of a waterproof pannier bag smelled really rank at the same time! Wow, not that the tent, sleeping bag, bicycle, as well as everything else did not need a good washing.

Yesterday I woke up 30 feet from the Caribbean, climbed up a coconut palm, tossed some down onto the beach, hacked them open with a machete, drank the milk, and ate the meet with some hot sauce, fresh lime, and a little salt. Then I went for a swim.

Very quick summary of the trip so far:
