Archive for 'biking'

quick observations

I just finished a 200km hike over 7 days, here are some of my observations from that.  Most of it was on (the Bruce) trails, but every day there ended up being 3-4km of walking alongside a road.

  • hiking makes for sore feet, especially 75-80 h of it
  • 5 cars honked/ cheered me on
  • One of those was a convertible Lambo and the driver through in a few engine revs :)
  • Zero cars tried hitting me/ were threatening
  • I saw one trail runner and he was cheerful and chatty
  • 3 triathletes refused to acknowledge me (2 running one on bike)
  • all groups of cyclists said hello (I kinda thought it would have been the opposite)

Your Dream Season 2/3 Why Winter Training Camps are Key to Summer Racing Success.

Your Dream Season 2/3 Why Winter Training Camps are Key to Summer Racing Success.

Yes, winter is the perfect time to work on improving your weaknesses and building your strengths. This is when the base to your injury-free season is put into place. This isn’t breaking news– we know this, plan on doing this, but don’t always follow through.

If you are under the snow of a Canadian winter (as I presently am) or even if you are in warmer climates, taking a week to get away once or twice during the cold dark season can help you reap rewards during summer races.

Post Wedding Bike Tour

terryBefore I get into things, I would like to re-assure everyone that I have been simply really busy doing different kinds of hiking and camping trips, not wallowing at the bottom of a cookie bag as some of you may assume…

Bike touring marriage, you say. I gotta get me one of those. yeah you do. (no it doesn’t make sense, but sounds good).

Anyhow the day after the wedding, having refrained from punking the bride and groom, I rode to the scene of the crime, was loaded down with rolls and roast beef, and started riding. And I rode. The days were A) social, or B) >200km while pulling 65lb bike/ trailer combo.

I was supposed to A) meet Brent and Greg at their hotel… but I was 2+h late.

Justin Marriage : the stag

toad on the couch bikeEverything was steaming along fine in our deck renovations. Once Kev and I had finished 3 weeks of procrastination and started work. We also fabricated and painted cupboard doors to complement last winters back-splash.

Long story short, I was 2 days late, and starting to scheem up very complicated methods for ‘biking’ (car ride, train, bus, fed-ex) the 500km to Justin’s (yet to be organized) Stag in KW. Tracy who was (thank muchas) flying my suit up to Thunderbay for the wedding, called to see why I hadn’t dropped my shoes off, and then suggested ‘wouldn’t it be easier to car pool with me to Toronto tomorrow?’

What a difference a week makes

greenLast week I my ‘attacks’ on the noon ride were brought back in seconds, my pain receptors had rejuvenated themselves, and I suffered all sorts of unknown pain. 3 days before that I went for a flat ride in the big ring, and had to turn back after 20 minutes, because my feeble, furry, legs just couldn’t hack it. Thank Goodness for 18 years of muscle memory.
I LOVE TO RIDE MY BICYCLE!

Bicycle… bicycle.

Ace Rocks OutHey,

I realize that my last post said nothing, and I expect no better from this one. I’ve just been on the e-bizzl fritz some more. For those keeping track, I have already caught and ironed out my only shipping bug thus far.

One advantage E-Bay has over real-life-stores is that you don’t have to look at someone in the face and answer questions, like this one:

Q: just a precaution…but can i ask why your member location and item location dont match?….lots of scams floating around ebay, no disrespect or anything…thanks

I love you Mommy & Bill Gates vs GM

I’ve been riding and realizing how much gas money it’s going to take to drive back east next month.

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the Computer industry with the auto industry and stated, “If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon.”

In response to Bill’s comments, General Motors issued a press release stating: If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:

Kicking, and still alive

School – done
Work – check, done
Yeah I had a peek at the real world, 40h weeks, hand crushing work 60 feet up scaffolding, handing up ¾ inch plywood sheets, covered in oil, while rain, and everything else runs down your neck.
