quick observations

I just finished a 200km hike over 7 days, here are some of my observations from that.  Most of it was on (the Bruce) trails, but every day there ended up being 3-4km of walking alongside a road.

  • hiking makes for sore feet, especially 75-80 h of it
  • 5 cars honked/ cheered me on
  • One of those was a convertible Lambo and the driver through in a few engine revs :)
  • Zero cars tried hitting me/ were threatening
  • I saw one trail runner and he was cheerful and chatty
  • 3 triathletes refused to acknowledge me (2 running one on bike)
  • all groups of cyclists said hello (I kinda thought it would have been the opposite)

Crystal ball for 2010 Cycling

No doping positives this tour, so I thought that I would rant about it anyhow.

Lance Races – Clean Tour.  Lance is somewhat the Mafia Don of Cycling – he controls lots of things, through leverage payments, and IOU’s.  Cyclings Dope testing arm is somehow involved in this web.  Lance was reported to have made a known (how many other private bribes were there?) $100,000 payment to them (paying out of a +ve test?) I can no longer find the story, but he said at the time it was to help keep the sport cleaner.  Right.  And he also bitched about being tested so much.

get a handful of theseOne really good omen about the trip down here which I forgot to mention, is that on my South West flight, I sat near to the cutest girl on the flight, but then was distracted talking to a 60 year old lady flying down to gamble.  Both things surprisingly typical.  When I remember the attractive young lady, I triple take looking over before I realize that it’s Kateri a good friend of mine from high school who I’d lost track of for some 11 years.

The straight dope.

Hello there.

Yes I am doing fine. Thanks for everyone who is wondering if I am lost somewhere, AWOL or otherwise.

If you have not heard the news is that Jan Ulrich’s DNA matched up to the DNA found in the refrigerator of a Spanish ‘doping doctor’. I don’t think that anyone really is terribly surprised at this, his Lawyers were trying to block the DNA transfer, and when they failed he retired.

Technically the entire investigation is shelved, and as one, fingered athlete argued, buying a gun, doesn’t make you guilty of murder. But come on, what did 200+ athletes involved in this toothless investigation (only 58 were cyclists) have their blood saved for? The Red Cross?

Flat out on my ASSsss

I’ve been having a bit of an ‘on my ass’ kinda week

Wednesday I was thinking about how productive I had been. All because I had fixed the broken railing on the porch. Ohh, Good for me, I fixed the railing that I broke off trying to sneak quietly in sometime early Monday morning. Of course once the railing pulled off the porch, I promptly found myself … on my ass in the garden.

Racing Season Re-Cap.

So my 2005 season on a pro team was a blow out. I quantitatively had my best form ever, and have almost nothing to show for it. Montreal Quebec, where I was 3rd team mate on the road, but the front two guys got dropped proved to be a turning point in the season. The best laid plans can go wrong, but when your plan continuously proves to be fatal, and pro teams loose local race after local race, you need some sort of consequence, or try something new… So my team and I parted ways things have been looking up.
