Jan 16 Race?

Tomorrow could be the first race of the season.  If it is, it won’t be pretty.  I’ve just gotten down south and in a distraction free environment.  In my second ride over 3h since IM Canada (that’s in August if you’re counting).  I tried a few efforts to open the legs up this morning.

Ironman World Championships: the Plan

view out the windowThe Secret Goal: Simply it’s to be the fastest age grouper.  You will be able to track my progress online at www.ironman.com – go to the ‘athlete tracker’ and punch in my name.  Also there will be a live commentary where I could be getting some play.

I’ve gotten in the habit of predicting my race times, the day before the event.  In Kona, it’s a little tougher, because the currants in the swim.  Wind, and heat make huge differences (20 minutes or so) in the bike and run splits.  The training I have been doing all season, and especially the last month is essentially to program myself so that these paces and distances come automatically.  I will be your friendly, focused dream crushing robot on cruise control.

Leaving Las Vegas… and getting ready to crush dreams

Overall I think that Vegas training has gone really well.  The weather forcast for the upcoming week in Hawaii (with humidity factored in) is slightly cooler than the past 3 weeks have been here.  I e-mailed Mr Salt Stick and we went over and tweaked my nutrition plan, and my salt intake for Kona.

My swimming is where it was before Wisconsin.  My bike is going faster.  My run, well I have no experience running a marathon, let alone off the bike in Kona.  Macca took 7 attempts to get it, but McGlone and Wellington both did OK on their first go.  Personally I think I’m as ready as I can be, and am looking forward to the racing.

To Hell in a Handbasket.

First off I’m not sure where to start ranting…  So I’ll start with the good news:

Training is coming together.  After having smashing bike rides out here in the desert, some really good runs coming along over the past days, I had a solid swim yesterday.  So its all coming together.  Of course realizing that made me too nervous to sleep well last night.

Fangs and Claws: IM Wisconsin t- 32h

So this is it. I am in Wisconsin, and IM is starting a day and 8h away. I’m nervous, and blogging.

My plan initially is 55-57min swim (thanks 2XU V:1 Wetsuit), 4h40-4h45min bike (thanks Specialized Transition), and 3h to 3h05min marathon (shoe sponsor would be nice). Add 6 or 7 minutes for Transitions, and I could very well win the thing with a 8:50 – 8:55 IM debut. Or maybe I will have more respect for the bike course the Pro Field and IronMan in general when the dust settles.

Of course Kona has been my goal all year, and this close to the race going ‘balls out’ for 9h ish could cause some damage.
