Hawaii Adventures pt 3: Maui
Here is a story that I started last November. It’s been in the draft bin for a while, now, and I thought that I’d finish it off.
I am very sad that there will be no Maui for me in 2009. I loved Maui.

1st. My parents are off hiking the Camino de Santiago. Which is a super pilgrimage, and while I wish that I was along. To make me more envious, despite their lack of computer affection I’ve received two updates from them. They have flown
Mom’s report #1 April 23:
We are here and about to start from ST Jean Pied de Port in a few minutes. Went some 38 hours from Tues am without sleep. Up at 6:30am Thick fog both in my head and outside. Beautiful mountain vistas from our hostel in the citadel last night. Such history everywhere you look!! Buen Camino!

FACT: I am a long time bike nut, enthuiast. Most years I get 5 new bikes, simply because I love having new bikes, and I also love to try out different brands, types, and purposes.
There is nothing like a new project (triathlon, bike tour, off road bike tour, etc) which requires a new bike, new specialized specific parts. I have been to several different ware houses, but never to the main nerve center where new bikes born, prototypes destroyed.
As part of my road trip last week I managed to spend 2 days on the Specialized Bicycle Components University. I loved every second of it.

Otherwise I am dog walking/ dog sitting. The ‘off season’ is over. It included being ‘less’ active and “maxing-out” my pizza consumption for a bit. I am now starting up structured workouts. My race plan is set (see the training and race schedule tab at the top of my site). Last year, I was essentially worried about swimming; worked hard on it — I know the drill. I’ll take another 3 minutes off my IM swim time this year, but now I have a very real concern for my running. I’m running 4h a week right now, really slowly, and will be picking up the hours, but keeping the intensity low.

Four Caledon C3 athletes recognized as Ontario’s elite

Caledon’s C3 Canadian Cross Training Club will end the year receiving four of Ontario’s top athlete of the year awards.
Mayfield Secondary School graduate Sean Bechtel was recognized as the province’s elite triathlete of the year.
Bechtel really took his racing to a new level in 2008 with three major wins and two course records. He wrote his final university exam this month and will be moving to C3′s Tucson Arizona winter training base in January, said his coach Barrie Shepley. With full-time training in 2009, Shepley said he expects to see Bechtel move into the top four to five pros in North America.

Your Dream Season 2/3 Why Winter Training Camps are Key to Summer Racing Success.Â
Yes, winter is the perfect time to work on improving your weaknesses and building your strengths. This is when the base to your injury-free season is put into place. This isn’t breaking news– we know this, plan on doing this, but don’t always follow through.Â
If you are under the snow of a Canadian winter (as I presently am) or even if you are in warmer climates, taking a week to get away once or twice during the cold dark season can help you reap rewards during summer races.

Mrs Loeberg taught me in grade 9 that I should not to start a sentence with ‘And’. And look where it’s gotten me!
So I received a K-Swiss care package today. I was expecting a set of track pants, one pair of shoes, and was hoping for maybe a pair of socks or a t-shirt.
The box was so big that it took up more than it’s half of the front of the rental car (my mtb was in the trunk, and a Specialized super sweet 18.5 lb Carbon Stump Jumper was taking up the back seat). I need to clone myself 7 times to wear all this stuff.

Hey,
I have very limited internet access, but after some crazy fluid retention in my legs, I am mostly recovered, and will start training for Xterra on Friday. I have a few hikes around the Island (hitch and with shanks) planned and I’m really really glad that I have little bit of extra time here to check the place out and be able to enjoy Hawaii. I’m in Hilo now and it raining, but I came back from the farmers market with 4 different varieties of avocado (there are over 300 grown on the island, but because of the large California lobbying groups they can’t sell them in the supermarkets, so the organic flavorful ones are cheaper than imported mushy hass ones. Classic. I’m excited for the potluck tonight to try out my haul.
